Environmental Grief Group: Connection in the Face of Climate Change
Mondays, 7:15-8:15pm
Hybrid | 6 Weeks | Adults 18+Led by Tara Ouillette, LCPC
Many of us struggle with climate grief and anxiety in the face of widespread climate destruction. It can sometimes feel isolating and invalidating to try to share these feelings with others who seem indifferent about caring for the Earth. Throughout the 6 weeks, we will use structured activities and group discussion to identify and process emotions around climate change, develop coping tools for living in an ongoing climate crisis, and foster a sense of community, connection, and purpose. We will honestly and safely explore difficult feelings like burnout, powerlessness, and hopelessness around the deep grief, while simultaneously moving towards connection, resilience, and meaning-making. The fight is hard, but you don’t have to fight alone.

If you feel like you can’t stop ruminating on the past or worrying about the future, you may benefit from Mindfulness skills. Mindfulness is not about getting rid of all thoughts and feelings, but rather about honing your ability to notice them before they become overwhelming or unhelpful. This way, instead of getting stuck future-tripping or dwelling on the past, you can live your life in the present. Mindfulness can also be the basis for improvement in many areas of life including in tolerating distress and managing interpersonal conflicts. In this 5-week group you will get a crash course on mindfulness and have the opportunity to practice skills in real-time with others.

That’s understandable! Our clinicians are skilled at running groups and tending to all the participants. It can feel really vulnerable to join a group with people you don’t know to address struggles you are having, and each person in the group is taking that scary but worthwhile step to heal in community and benefit from group work.
